For quite some time, I’ve been wanting to document Asian poses. Although some people find it cheesy, I’m a huge fan. Seo You Jin, Lee Kyeong Min, Hwang Mi Hee, and many other Korean racing models tend to do these typical Asian poses, which make them perfect pictorial examples.
I’m a bit unsure about some of these gesture names, if you have a better suggestion please leave a comment! I made my way through the posts on this site to get a couple photos per pose. If you’d like to contribute some, please visit the Asian poses thread in the forum.
Pose #4: Crying – two closed fists near the eyes is usually the crying motion isn’t it?

Pose #7: ? – I really don’t know how to describe this one…

Pose #13: Louder – I’m guessing this hand gesture is suppose to project their voice or something

Pose #15: ? – what does a finger on the chin mean?

Pray #20: Sad – models do this sometimes while they are happy, so I’m not too sure about this one

Although this list is far from complete, it does capture a few poses from this video:

For the V Sign, I thought it was Vince
I always thought it was the peace sign, but Wiki says v sign http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_gestures#V_sign
But the Vince sign? Hmmm XD
V SIGN!!
Pose #6: Success! XD
Pose #22: STFU! … Just kidding XD
the last picture (#24) doesn’t seem to be a thumbs up, since her index finger is extended. seems more like a “bang” pose to me~
“Pose #4: Crying – two closed fists near the eyes is usually the crying motion isn’t it?”
Isnt that more like a “nyan nyan” pose, like a kitty pose?
@SomeDude: Yes, #4 is the classic neko pose. I suppose if she had a sad face it would be “crying,” or a sad cat.
#20 Sad seems more like she’s pouting.
I have to agree with SOmeDude and SlickDog that #4 is a Nyan~ or Meow~, if you want to keep things in english, pose (I would call something crying if the models face was a bit scrunched up and her hands were up by her eyes). #20 is pouting (like matt said) and #24 is a “bang” pose (like affi) said.
A better illustration of thumbs up would be http://reallycuteasians.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/seo-you-jin-sms-09-cat-01.jpg
Pose #7 – puppy eyes
Pose #15 – the ‘hmm’ (+ the pout) pose (thinking pose)
or at least that’s what I think it is
xD
for pose #7 this is a fine illustration of what i mean

(sorry for the double post the html code didn’t work in the first one) =\
pose 5 claws…its ears
12 look ahead…more like salute
and yea you guys seem to have gotten it but when a korean does a v sign it means victory
@Aadx – she’s doing a very cute STFU

@affi – my bad, I lost the index finger in that perspective. Thanks for the correction!
@SomeDude, SlickDog – nyan nyan is much better
@Matt – a lot of models have that same hand gesture while smiling, is there something to describe that hand motion? (it’s sort of resting face on hands)
@Locutis – thanks for the confirmations and photos
@NovemberRain – perfect illustration for #7! Thanks! #15 does look like a thinking pose
@jay – Ah, so it’s different for Koreans? I guess it’ll have to be victory then. I’ll merge salute and look ahead.
Thanks for everyone’s feedback! If I could find a nice facepalm photo, that would describe what I’m feeling right now XD
#6 looks to me like playful scolding. Something like “I’m going to get you!” or “You’re in big trouble, mister!”
hrm… V sign.. in asia I thought it was for Victory!
I’m thinking it was that way in America until the hippies stole the sign >_<
Damn, couldnt believe there are SO many poses that these korean cuties can come up with… Question: Who do you think is the “BEST” or most creative with thoses poses? New poll Steve?
@BigT42 – playful scolding is a good alternate explanation
She is a bit angry in that photo
@bobbydee – alright, I think victory is the most popular explanation at this point
@Mattias – voting will happen eventually, just wait a bit
Potential future gallery theme? Great post.
I’m hoping for a potential new site, which will be an ongoing scavenger hunt with lots of photos. I’m still working on it though…
Isn’t #5 the rabbit ears?
I would like to name #15 the Kiss Here pose
[...] Name that Pose! [...]
