Build Your Own Asian Girl Poster!

Mattias had commented on Idol Retouch that he wanted to make a poster of Hwang Mi Hee. However, to find large resolution photos is pretty hard…so if you are really bored (like I am), you can use the Rasterbator to generate some posters (the site has some amazing examples). It’ll look good from far away, which I think is all that matters for posters in my opinion. Also, you print out the pages on a standard printer and assemble it later yourself.

Step 1: Download the rasterbator, which can be found for free here.

Step 2: Find a photo…doesn’t have to be high resolution (this photo is 800×1200)

Step 3: Set the preferences. I wanted a 2m poster of Hwang Mi Hee. In the next menu, I chose the dots to be 3mm for more detail

Step 4: Rasterbate! It took around 1 minute and the resulting PDF is 43MB with some astonishing detail:

This photo is just part of the 49 pages to build the poster. Look at those luscious lips.

I don’t have access to a colour printer right now, but I’ll probably try a black and white one once I get my hands on a printer.

Rasterbator is pretty good, but to get a really good quality poster… you got to order one from a company that does them. Or have access to a industrial printer. Or work at a print shop.

Yeah, rasterbator is just a cheaper alternative if you want a poster that looks good far away.

I’ve used a similar program to create a poster. I frequent 4chan’s “/hr/” board which has tons of high resolution images. You should be able to find something poster-worthy in extremely high resolution there, and then either get it printed by a company (or in my case I have a friend who would do it fairly cheap for me), or use a program like Rasterbator.

I found that the effect was fairly decent – from my couch about 12 or so feet from the wall with the poster on it, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was multiple sheets of paper. That said, the amount of time and effort to pull such a thing off effectively… well, you might be better off flipping burgers (or whatever you may do for money) for a few hours and buying a perfect poster yourself.

Wow! I dont even know such stuff exists!!! Hehe, thanks for sharing, Steve… I would try it out!

I tried it out, cant really tell it on the screen…
Guess the program uses some kind of interpolation to get those half-tone effects. Color seems off in some areas.. BUT, on screen you cant really tell…
Anyone printed out anything yet? Like to comment please?
